Temporary closure of Richmond clinic for essential fire safety upgrades
The clinic will be closed from Monday 26 May to Monday 16 June.
Over the past few months, we have been diligently planning a temporary closure of our Richmond clinic to carry out urgent fire safety upgrades. These upgrades include replacing fire doors and the external fire escape.
We greatly appreciate your cooperation in facilitating this closure to ensure these essential works are completed safely and efficiently.

Questions and answers
Q1. Why are we temporarily closing the Richmond clinic to do this work?
Following a comprehensive risk assessment, we determined that the safest and most efficient way to complete the necessary fire safety upgrades is to temporarily close the clinic. While we considered partial closure options during the project's scoping phase, they were deemed unsafe and inappropriate for both patients and staff. Additionally, a partial closure would have extended the duration of the disruption.
Q2. Where will patients go during the temporary closure?
During this period, patients will be offered alternative appointments at other BPAS clinics. We have completed a mobilisation plan to increase capacity at other BPAS units, including several late gestation GA surgical lists at both Birmingham South and Bournemouth. We are also collaborating with other providers to offer alternative options if BPAS appointments are unsuitable or unavailable.
Q3. Where will staff go during the temporary closure?
During this closure our Richmond team will be supporting the additional lists at other locations, completing any outstanding training, supporting with some short-term project work, working from home, or taking annual leave.
